Terms and Conditions

Written as the life of a single booking. Each heading is a moment, and under it is the rule that governs that moment.

Most terms pages are a list of clauses with no sense of when any of them bite. This one is arranged differently. A booking made through muscatcarhire.com passes through a handful of distinct moments, from the first search to the day the car goes back, and responsibility moves between us, you and the rental company as it goes. What follows walks through those moments in order. Using this site at all means you accept what is set out here for the site. The rental itself is a separate agreement and you accept that separately, from the company that owns the car.

Moment one: you open the site, before you have searched for anything

The most important sentence on this page belongs here, before anything else happens. Muscat Car Hire is an affiliate. We introduce travellers to independent car rental companies operating in Muscat and we are paid a commission by those companies when a booking they receive from us is honoured. We do not own cars. We do not operate a rental desk at Muscat airport or anywhere else in Oman. We do not employ the person who hands you the keys, we never take custody of a vehicle, and at no point do we become a party to your rental contract.

That is not a disclaimer buried for safety. It is the structure of the business, and nearly everything below follows from it. The commission we are paid is settled between us and the supplier. It is not added to your price, it does not decide which cars appear first, and it does not give us any authority over how your rental is run.

Moment two: you search, and numbers appear on the screen

The cars, prices, deposits, kilometre allowances and cancellation terms shown on this site are read from a third party supplier feed at the moment your page loads, and they are displayed in euros. They are a reflection of what the suppliers are publishing right then. They are not an offer from Muscat Car Hire, they are not a quotation, and they are not held for you.

Live data moves. A price can change between one search and the next, a car can be taken by somebody else while you are reading about it, and a supplier can revise a deposit or a mileage cap without telling us first. We also cannot audit the accuracy of what the feed sends us. We pass it on as received, in good faith, and where you find a genuine error we would rather hear about it than not, but a figure on this page binds nobody until a supplier confirms it.

Moment three: you send a booking request, and nothing is agreed yet

Choosing a car and submitting your details sends a request. It is not an acceptance and it does not create a contract. The supplier decides whether to take it, and that decision rests entirely with them. A request can be declined because the car has gone, because the dates will not work for their fleet, or because something in your details does not meet their own conditions.

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you send. Dates, times, the spelling of the main driver's name and the driver's age all travel straight to the supplier, and a correction made afterwards is a matter for them rather than for us.

Moment four: the supplier confirms, and a contract exists between you and them

Confirmation is the point at which a rental agreement comes into being, and the two parties to it are you and the supplier. Muscat Car Hire is not one of them. Everything that shapes the rental from here is written in the supplier's own terms and in the voucher they issue: the deposit and how it is held, the insurance excess, what the included cover does and does not waive, the fuel policy, the kilometre allowance and the charge for exceeding it, the minimum and maximum driver age, the documents the counter will ask for, and the rules on cancelling or amending.

Read the voucher. Where anything on this website appears to disagree with it, the voucher and the supplier's terms are what govern your rental.

Moment five: you arrive in Muscat and collect the car

The handover is between you and the supplier, under their conditions, in Oman. They set the identification they require, the licence and permit rules they apply, the card they will accept for any deposit hold, and the condition the car is handed over in. We have no presence at that counter and no power to overrule a decision taken there.

General guidance published elsewhere on this site, about licences, permits, driver age or local driving conditions, is written to help you prepare. It describes what is typical in Oman and it is not a representation about any particular supplier, nor a promise that a specific card, licence or document will be accepted on the day.

Moment six: the car goes back, and money moves

Final charges, the release of any deposit hold, fuel reconciliation, excess kilometre fees, traffic fines and damage assessments are all handled by the supplier under the agreement you signed with them. Muscat Car Hire does not take payment for your rental, does not hold your deposit, and does not issue refunds for it.

Moment seven: something went wrong and you want to raise it

Write to us at [email protected]. We will read it, and where the problem concerns this website, a listing that was wrong or a referral that did not reach the supplier, we will deal with it directly. Where it concerns the rental, we can pass your account to the supplier and ask them to respond, and often that helps, but we cannot adjudicate a dispute we are not a party to and we cannot compel an outcome. If a listing ever leads you to believe otherwise, treat this paragraph as the correction.

Three rules that apply at every moment above

What you may do with this site

The text, page structure, photographs, graphics and code on muscatcarhire.com belong to Muscat Car Hire or to the parties who licensed them to us, and the supplier material shown here belongs to the suppliers. You are welcome to read it, print it and link to it. You may not republish it, scrape it in bulk, resell it, or present it as your own. Use the site for genuine travel planning, do not attempt to interfere with it or with the systems behind it, and do not send automated traffic through the search.

What we are and are not liable for

We take care over what is published here, but we provide the site as it is. We do not warrant that it will be available without interruption, that third party feed data will always be accurate or current, or that the site will be free of faults. Our responsibility is limited to the operation of this website. We are not liable for loss arising out of a rental, including a supplier cancelling or failing to provide a car, charges levied at the counter, vehicle condition or breakdown, accidents, fines, or travel plans disrupted by any of these. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss of any kind. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Which law applies

These website terms, and your use of muscatcarhire.com, are governed by the law of Oman. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom, that choice does not remove any mandatory protection your own country's law gives you, and where your local law gives you a right to bring a claim at home that you cannot sign away, you keep it. Your rental agreement is a separate contract and will usually name its own governing law, normally that of the supplier. If a court finds one part of this page unenforceable, the rest of it stands, and not enforcing a clause once does not give it up for the future.

When this page changes, and how to reach us

We revise this page when the supplier network or the law makes it necessary, and the version published at the moment you use the site is the version that applies to that visit. We do not notify visitors individually, so read it again rather than relying on an earlier reading. Muscat Car Hire works by email and keeps no telephone line, which is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight: it gives both of us a written record of what was asked and what was answered. Write to [email protected] and we will reply to the same address.
